NEW DELHI: Hero MotoCorp and Honda two-wheelers led the sales chart of two-wheeler manufacturers as the entire market recorded high double-digit degrowth in May.
After the Covid-19 lockdown was relaxed in various parts of the country, manufacturing resumed operations gradually from first week of May. Here is a detailed breakdown of sales:
Hero MotoCorp registers 83% decline
The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp reported a 82.71 per cent decline in total sales at 1,12,682 units in May.
The company had sold 6,52,028 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.
In the domestic market, sales stood at 1,08,848 units last month as compared with 6,37,319 units in the same period a year ago, down 82.92 per cent.
The world’s largest two-wheeler company Hero MotoCorp continues to be the market leader, despite the severe disruptions caused by the countrywide lockdown due to Covid-19.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter retails 1.15 lakh units
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reported total wholesales of 54,820 units for May.
This includes 54,000 domestic dispatches and 820 two-wheeler exports, the company said in a statement. In terms of retail sales, the company said that in May, it crossed the 1.15-lakh units mark.
TVS Motor sales stood at 58,906 units in May
TVS Motor Company reported total sales of 58,906 units in May after resuming operations.
Total two-wheeler sales stood at 56,218 units, out of which domestic sales were at 41,067 units last month, TVS Motor Co said in a statement. Three-wheeler sales stood at 2,688 units in May, it added.
Bajaj Auto total sales plunge 70% in May
Bajaj Auto on Tuesday reported 70 per cent decline in total sales at 1,27,128 units in May as against 4,19,235 units in the same month last year.
Total domestic sales declined by 83 per cent to 40,074 units last month as compared to 2,35,824 units in May 2019, Bajaj Auto said.
The company further said its total two-wheeler sales were down 69 per cent at 1,12,798 units as compared to 3,65,068 units in the year-ago month.
Domestic two-wheeler sales were at 39,286 units last month as against 2,05,721 units in May 2019, a decline of 81 per cent, it added.
Royal Enfield sells 19,113 units
Royal Enfield reported a 69 per cent decline in total sales at 19,113 units in May. The company had registered total sales of 62,371 units in the same month a year ago, Royal Enfield said in a statement.
Domestic sales in May were at 18,429 units as against 60,211 units in the year-ago month, down 69 per cent, it added. Exports last month were at 684 units as compared with 2,160 units in May 2019, a decline of 68 per cent, it said.
